Ethical UK healthcare recruitment for internationally qualified nurses. From Aberdeen, Scotland, Alfordz International guides you through the UK NMC registration requirements — English evidence, the Test of Competence (CBT and OSCE) and the NMC application. Employment and visa sponsorship are separate decisions made by employers and UK authorities.
If you hold a B.Sc Nursing or GNM qualification and registration in your home country, you may be eligible to apply — the NMC assesses each qualification and applicant individually, wherever in the world you are currently working.
We follow UK ethical recruitment standards, including the DHSC Code of Practice. That means a realistic assessment of your profile, clear information about timelines, and introductions only to employers and agencies on the NHS Employers Ethical Recruiters List. We do not promise guaranteed jobs or visas — those decisions rest with employers and UK authorities — but we make the process navigable.
The steps a nurse trained outside the UK follows to register with the NMC. See the NMC’s step-by-step overseas registration guide for the official process.
A few abbreviations come up again and again on this route. Here is what they mean.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council — the UK regulator for nurses, midwives and nursing associates. It sets the registration requirements. (This is a different body from India’s National Medical Commission.) See the NMC registration guidance for nurses and midwives trained outside the UK.
The NMC accepts eligible OET Nursing or IELTS Academic tests (including IELTS Academic UKVI). You normally provide one of these — not both. Check the current score requirements on the NMC website before booking. Test details are on the official OET website and in the official IELTS test information.
The CBT (Computer-Based Test) is the theory part, booked and delivered through the NMC’s approved testing arrangements, with a numeracy section and a clinical section. The OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is the practical part, taken in the UK. Together they form the NMC Test of Competence.
An electronic sponsorship record issued by an approved UK employer for your Health and Care Worker visa application. It is not a job guarantee or a visa approval on its own.
The GMC (General Medical Council) and PLAB concern doctors, not nurses. Nurses register with the UK NMC and take the NMC Test of Competence — there is no PLAB in the nursing route.
One team across every stage of the route.
Alfordz International is included on the NHS Employers Ethical Recruiters List. Inclusion does not make an organisation a preferred supplier, an NHS recommendation or an approved-framework supplier. We work only with employers and agencies that comply with the DHSC Code of Practice for international recruitment. Last checked: September 2026.
We provide administrative visa guidance and placement support; we do not provide unregulated legal immigration advice, and we never advertise “guaranteed” jobs or visas.
In short: check your readiness and evidence; submit your NMC eligibility and qualification application; take the NMC CBT while it is processed; provide your English, health, character and indemnity evidence; and the NMC evaluates your completed application. Separately, a UK employer may offer a job with a Certificate of Sponsorship, you apply for the Health and Care Worker visa, and you sit the OSCE in the UK before your NMC PIN is issued. We manage the sequence with you and keep you to a realistic timeline.
Timing varies with the applicant, regulator, testing availability, employer and immigration processing. We can give you an indicative timeline for your situation, but it is not a commitment.
Yes. The NMC accepts eligible OET Nursing and IELTS Academic tests (including IELTS Academic UKVI) as English-language evidence. OET is healthcare-specific, which many nurses find more natural. We help you choose based on your strengths and confirm current requirements.
For OET Nursing, the UK NMC currently accepts at least grade B (350) in reading, listening and speaking, and at least C+ (300) in writing. For IELTS Academic, the NMC currently accepts at least 7.0 in reading, listening and speaking, and at least 6.5 in writing. Combination rules may apply — always check the latest NMC guidance before you book.
